Surprise, Deco refused to continue with Xavi
A Spanish press report sparked a huge surprise about Barcelona's sporting director Deco's position on the fate of coach Xavi Hernandez.
According to the Spanish newspaper "Sport", Deco was not completely supportive of Xavi's continuity, and he believed that the team could provide a better performance.
The newspaper added: “Deco had many doubts about things within the team, most notably the defensive performance and repeated injuries.”
She pointed out that Deco had prepared an alternative plan and Rafael Marquez was not the chosen coach, but after the meeting with Laporta everything ended with Xavi staying.
The newspaper reported that Deco is the club's man and loyal to the board of directors, and will provide assistance to Xavi in the coming period to achieve success.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta held a decisive meeting with Xavi and Deco, the sporting director, yesterday evening, Wednesday, and it was finally decided that the coach would remain until the end of his contract in June 2025.
